QR codes are insanely helpful and underrated tools. They can be used for everything from tracking the position of objects in a scene, to helping your application differentiate between different objects, to use in augmented reality (AR) workflows.

Getting these to work and be scanned in TouchDesigner was previously a tricky process. That changes now that the Script TOP, which allows us to get real-time native access to OpenCV.

In this video, Elburz helps you prop up a quick example that does QR code tracking in real-time using OpenCV inside the Script TOP and explains some of the common issues you’ll encounter with these workflows inside of TouchDesigner.
