Digital media offers a wide range of possibilities that can draw out the relationship between sound and image. With a variety of digital techniques music can be experienced as a total audiovisual phenomenon. This masterclass will teach participants how to use randomness and probability in order to give life to visual content. By analyzing sound features such as frequencies, tempo, and other musical gestures, instructor, Mathieu Le Sourd will explain how to create unexpected outcomes using a combination of random actions.

The digital artist Mathieu Le Sourd (aka ‘Maotik’) is from Montreal and creates immersive multimedia environments and visual systems generated in real time. His works have been presented in various festivals around the world, including the Mutek Festival (Montreal, Mexico City, Barcelona, and Tokyo), Live Cinema in Rio de Janeiro, the Plums Festival in Moscow, the Signal Festival in Prague, the British London Film Institute and, Ars Electronica in Linz.
As the head of the Moment Factory interactive team he realized major projects such as the multimedia experience of the new Los Angeles airport terminal and the visual effects of Nine Inch Nails’ world tour. Le Sourd also produced DROMOS, an immersive multimedia performance that was acclaimed by critics and presented at the Satosphère in Montreal as part of the Mutek Festival.
Mathieu Le Sourd designs his own visual tools, which allows him to generate visuals in real time from algorithms and 3D universes that transform the perception of space. He collaborates with musicians, sound artists, and scientists in pursuit of his quest to find links between art, science, and technology.
