Body Shapes, Visual States Interactive Movement Art with Touchdesigner and Kinect

This visual exploration, inspired by Rudolf Laban’s movement analysis, focuses on the “Ball” shape, which often symbolizes warmth, protection, and self-care. Yet, shaping the body into a ball can also evoke more complex emotions—such as turning inward, holding something back, or even feeling trapped. The “Ball” form holds space for both comfort and constraint, offering a dual perspective on the emotional experience of containment.

This visual is part of an upcoming project led by the talented performers and dance therapists, @nunu.collect and @francamischo Their work delves into the deep connection between movement and emotional expression, and I am excited to contribute interactive visuals that bring these concepts to life.

Using Kinect, TouchDesigner, Nvidia Flow, ParticlesGPU, and live TouchDiffusion, we translated these emotional and physical forms into dynamic, real-time visuals. The Kinect captures the nuances of movement, while TouchDesigner and TouchDiffusion manipulate these inputs into abstract, responsive visuals.
