TouchDesigner Synthetic Pitch Shift!!!!! ft. Bob Dylan & nomeansno
For a few years I have been mucking about synthesizing cloned music and tones with audio oscillators in TouchDesigner.
Today is a continuation, where 2000 pure sine waves faithfully clone, and pitch shift a Bob Dylan track, and then a nomeansno track. Dylan is wholly synthetic, NMN is synthetic until it gets mixed with the original song and the synth clone becomes a blended effect.
A custom map of Hz values based on division of the octave straddle the spectrum to extract amplitude values, and remap them to oscillators spread across 10 engines. No VSTs. Just TD native oscillators in unison.
This is an epic leap forward in quality and potential from previous oscillator orchestras. By making better use of lookups I have gained precision; and with engines expanded the breadth of tones incorporated. This synthetic copy is not bound to sample rate, so pitch shifting it does not have to be quantized to fractions of the original samples. Some occasional crackling and distortion can be be heard in the background, caused by dropped frames and ELC mismatching, not by pitch shifting.
All sorts of interesting inflection and mixing possibilities. Very fun to play with and very diverse, exciting method of adding depth to a track.
Bob always had trouble keeping track of his pitch.
