TouchDesigner for Video Artists Part 11 | Oscillographics + Performative Keyframes DATs

Many experimental media artists have explored oscillogrpahics in their practice and research. I start this tutorial by looking at Mary Ellen Bute’s work in the 1950s, she is a experimental animation pioneer who’s work Abstronic utilized an oscilloscope. You can watch the piece on Light Cone’s site. Other prevalent and contemporary artist worth exploring in the realm of Oscillographics and Vector Synthesis should include Derek Holzer who has done extensive research into the history of these tools and their creative impacts. Including there book Vector Synthesis: a Media Archaeological Investigation into Sound-Modulated Light. One should also check out the Vector Hack Festival as it has presented many prevalent artists. This tutorial is a simple way to start experimenting with oscillographic forms inside of TouchDesigner not a setup to go out to an actual Oscilloscope.
