Speedy J – Patterns: Audiovisualization using Touchdesigner and MIDI
This is like one of those projects that reminds me of why and when I started with ‘audio-visualization’. I recall, somewhere around 20 years ago, I listened to this track by Speedy J and thought, well, this is very ‘visually sounding’. When he released ‘Umfeld’ with Scott Pagano I sort of got it like, yeah, he’s probably quite visually minded when composing tracks. And then it clicked for me, it can be the same thing!
Went from djing Jungle / Drum and Bass into the more Deep Techno House kind of vibe and started producing my own tracks.
Then during my study in my early 20’s I developed a more theoretical approach towards sound, visualization, affect, visual sonification, clubbing djing, vjing etc. Everything I liked about sound, music, visuals sort of merged into what I like doing today: technical support and development for/of audio reactive systems.
I would like to get way more into detail, but I leave this to my loyal followers. This piece is highly inspired by the works of Speedy J, Scott Pagano and the works of Alex Rutterford for Autechre. Also an homage to ourselves for developing so many useful tools that makes building these kind of audio reactive pieces a lot less tedious! We still use them on a daily basis.
