Generating particles from 3D geometry is pretty standard fare in TouchDesigner, even with the arrival of new particle-based workflows with POPs. That said, typical 3D geometry generator Ops aren’t the only way to create particle sources—textures can be a very interesting source too!
In this video, Jack DiLaura (@jackdilaura) walks you through generating 3D particles from textures utilizing new POP-based workflows.
You’ll learn some tricks for quickly putting together complex TOP-based patterns animated by a single LFO CHOP and then build out a POP network that converts the texture to 3D geometry, generates particles, applies color attributes, and more.
