Although procedural geometry isn’t often thought of in the same sense as physical sculptural artwork, there’s a lot of crossover in the way that geometric forms can be constructed and manipulated whether in the computer or with physical material.

Often, working with software to create aesthetic compositions of any variety can be difficult for beginners, as there are limitless options for visual customization and adding complexity. Minimalist, abstract sculptures provide a great starting point for aesthetic exploration, as well as working within creative limitations.

In this video, Jack DiLaura walks you through creating a minimalist, abstract 3D sculpture in TouchDesigner inspired by the work of Tony Smith and other minimalist sculptors.

You’ll create procedural geometry, work with realistic materials as well as lighting to create a dramatic scene that highlights the abstract, low-poly-style geometric artwork. Great for beginners who are looking to expand their knowledge of SOPs, rendering, and materials!
