“Oni wa soto, fuku wa uchi” means “Demons out, good fortune in.”
It’s said during Setsubun, a Japanese seasonal event in early February.
People throw roasted soybeans at someone wearing a demon mask to symbolically drive away bad luck and invite happiness into the home.
