In this tutorial, I show how to make a text / character based particle system in Touchdesigner using the new POPs (Point Operators). The text-particle approach isn’t actually unique to POPs and could be implemented using TOPs, SOPs or even CHOPs (i.e. geo instancing with 3D textures and UVW mapping). But this also provides an excuse to get into POPs 🙂

Covers:
– Point cloud morphing / mixing using Math Combine POP
– Using effectors to influence POP attributes using Field POP
– E.g. inside effector sphere randomize characters, add noise, increase scale etc.
– Math Combine to join and control POP attributes in a complex manner
– POP based particles using GEO instancing
– Controlling POP attributes with CHOPs (e.g. LFO, Pattern etc.) using Lookupchan POP
– Math Combine POP to create and control POP attributes
– Using Noise POP with arbitary attributes such as Index, Position, Color, Scale or custom.
