Hello, this is Xtal!

In this tutorial, we explore how to create a dynamic particle disintegration effect using GPU-based particles in TouchDesigner.

From force radius manipulation to turbulence, CHOP control, color lookup, and detailed compositing this project covers a complete breakdown of how to build expressive, layered particle visuals from scratch.

We go beyond the technical execution and dive into creative approaches: combining feedback trails, edge enhancement, embossed texture layers, and ramp-based color control to achieve both precision and emotion in motion.

Key Concepts Covered:

– ParticlesGPU with CHOP-based control (force, turbulence, reset)
– Dynamic color control with Ramp TOP → TOP to CHOP workflow
– Feedback + Emboss + Composite pipeline for visual richness
– Additive bloom and motion trails
– Visual storytelling through disintegration

Feel free to follow the structure, but also experiment, change, and build something uniquely yours.

The source footage, imported through the Movie File In node, features visual work by artist Joaquin Castillo.

As an artist, not a traditional educator, I’m excited to share my methods and process for creating unique glitch effects in TouchDesigner.
