Early 2025 we started working on an installation performance for the Festival Heimland in Diepenheim (a beautiful small town in the region of Twente in the Netherlands) In the performance I invited Eric Vloeimans on trumpet and the Bachwerkplaats choir to collaborate on the music. We used handmovements of the conductor, Yt Nicolai as well as Eric’s trumpet sound to trigger visuals on screen. The theme of the performance had everything to do with ‘Noaberschap’ which translates into ‘looking after one another as neighbours. The word Noaber is in that sense close to the english ‘neighbour’.In the region of Twente farms are common to the landscape. Many farms have a gable symbol, this is something we used in the first clip ‘Geveltekens’ (gable signs) In the second clip we used the landscape itself, trees living through the seasons. In the third clip you will see swallows, a bird that is common in the summer. They come and go, much to the way many people of Twente go to the city when they are young and come back in later life when they are looking to settle down. All three clips were directed by Udo Prinsen and animated by Finn Gras. They are very short and vertical versions of what the audience experienced in the performance. The music for these clips is not the music in the performance. They were created by Finn Gras (Geveltekens and trees) and we borrowed a segment from a track from Moby Gratis called am 23 ab oz. We are looking to build on this performance and our experience and work towards a tour or location performance in the near future.
