Sol LeWitt was a well known artist associated with the minimalist and conceptual art movements of the mid 20th century. He worked in a wide variety of mediums, but is perhaps best known for a long running series of wall drawings that he began in the late 1960s. LeWitt provided simple instructions for creating the work directly on the surface of a wall, allowing for the artworks to be recreated. By the early 2000s, LeWitt’s continued explorations resulted in a series of brightly colored, isometric/geometric compositions. In this video, Jack DiLaura walks you through recreating one of LeWitt’s wall drawings from this period in TouchDesigner, translating the 2D artwork into 3D geometry viewed through an orthographic camera and using lighting to add color.
