Forgotten, Once Remembered – Interactive Touchdesigner Dance Piece
Forgotten, Once Remembered – is an interactive audio visual piece by Nick Marriott and Grace Kim (Nabii) intrepreted and brought to life by Carmen Y 易嘉敏, presented at Pitch Music and Arts Festival and Babie Club.
A layered exploration of acceptance, creative dissonance, and unintended transformation, this work traces its own ironic evolution—from a fractured beginning to a place of quiet resolution. Its journey, marked by technical failure, personal unrest, and eventual recontextualization, is detailed below.
_____
Born amid my ever constant unrest, familial turbulence, and a set of self-inflicted arbitrary constraints, we ironically set out to interpret our recent loss of resistance and acceptance in life which we did not find until the final formation of this piece.
On opening night at Pitch, half the visual failed entirely—and with it, we took our first step in accepting the loss of this work before it was ever truly seen. Yet it stayed with us. Grace and I felt its presence lingering, unresolved. We returned to it quietly, working with Carmen to reimagine the sound through movement. Her interpretation offered a new entry point into something we had lost our connection with, realising the ever slight dissonance between the sound and visual.
When Babie Club invited me to present a work at their latest event, something finally clicked. The sonic palette of the night echoed the music that shaped this piece’s original conception. It felt like a strange kind of symmetry—a chance to reconnect with the work, not as a failure, but as a fragment worth completing.
This new iteration was a shift in context, a digital re-alignment that allowed the piece to evolve into something I could finally meet with acceptance. It’s a reflection on creative friction, failed expectations, and the quiet transformation that happens when you let go of control. Sometimes, a piece doesn’t find its final form until much later.
This piece reminded me that acceptance isn’t a single gesture—it’s a quiet, ongoing act of recognising truth each time it reveals itself.
