Writing Chinese Calligraphy on 3D Environment | wgpu & TouchDesigner
Experience a fusion of ancient Chinese calligraphy and modern real-time graphics. This video showcases a unique special effect where ink strokes are not just textures, but 3D volumetric entities that interact directly with a snowy environment inside a 360-degree cubemap. Watch as the characters from classic poetry are written into the 3D world, disturbing the snow as they form.
This visual effect was created using a custom graphics pipeline:
– Renderer: Built with wgpu (Rust’s WebGPU implementation) for high-performance cross-platform graphics.
– Environment: A dynamic 3D skybox (cubemap) rendered in TouchDesigner.
– Interaction: The sheer mechanics involve ray-marching or particle systems where the brush strokes are physical presence in the depth buffer, colliding with the snow particles.
– Integration: Seamless workflow between custom Rust code and TouchDesigner nodes.
